A New Era:
After 31 years of service from President Warren Baker and a brief 7 month stint from Interim President Robert Glidden, Cal Poly welcomes Jeffrey Armstrong as our new university president. President Armstrong comes to us from Michigan State University. With his official start date being February 1, President Armstrong began introducing himself to students, faculty, and staff in early January. Cal Poly Football on the move:
Cal Poly Football will make a move from the Great West Conference to the Big Sky Conference beginning with the 2012 football season. This is a big move for the program and provides a stable and competitive conference for our football program to compete in. The Big Sky is known as one of the best conferences in the Football Championship Subdivision (or 1-AA). Our long time rival, UC Davis, will make the change as well keeping the traditional conference rivalry intact. Coach Tim Walsh had this to say about the transition; “We are extremely excited to be a part of arguably the best NCAA FCS conference in the country. It is a conference that we are familiar with, the competition is top-flight and that will only make us better.” More details can be found here:

New Year, Same Results:
Cal Poly has again been considered among the nation’s best in public education. Cal Poly has a long standing tradition of being a competitive university that yields work ready graduates. Several publications such as US News and World Report and Kiplinger have again listed Cal Poly in that vein. The city of San Luis Obispo has even found itself listed as one of the happiest places on earth in a National Geographic book “Thrive” authored by Dan Buettner.
Especially in these times when the California budget has forced changes on higher education, Cal Poly retains its position as a top university for return on investment. The quality of a Cal Poly education remains high and the results of obtaining a Cal Poly degree continue to be fruitful. Our faculty, staff and students have worked hard to maintain the integrity of our university and it continues to show. Below is a list of published articles that speak about some of Cal Poly’s success.
Spring ACT, SAT Tests and FAFSA
Counselors, please remind your junior students to take the spring ACT or SAT tests. As you know, this may be the student’s first acquaintance with the tests. Upon receiving their tests results, students may take the opportunity to see their counselors for advise in taking the SAT or ACT a second, or even a third time. Please keep in mind that the California State University does not require scores from the SAT Subject Tests. Here are the tests dates and web links:
ACT – April 9th and June 11th http://www.actstudent.org/regist/dates.html
SAT – May 17th and June 4th http://sat.collegeboard.com/register
Priority deadline for the FAFSA for fall 2011 is March 2. Please remind your seniors!
